Is it allowed to park the car in the mentioned place?
Answer options
Explanation
Permitted.
The sign on the right is "end of one-way road": a blue square with a white upward arrow struck through by a red oblique stroke. The presence of this sign means that the section in which the car is parked is a one-way road. On a one-way road inside a built-up area, parking on the left-hand side of the carriageway is permitted for passenger cars and motorcycles; and the red car in the picture is parked exactly along the left edge, alongside the building.
The reason for the difference from two-way roads is simple. On a two-way road, parking on the left means the driver leaving must cross the opposing lane and, at the moment of pulling out, cut across the oncoming flow with the least possible view. On a one-way road no such flow exists; all vehicles come from one side, and parking on the left neither blinds the view nor requires a manoeuvre against the flow. That is why the law grants this permission only on a one-way road.
Worth memorising: this permission has limits. Lorries above the permitted weight may stop on the left of a one-way road only for loading and unloading, not park. And all the general prohibitions — junctions, pedestrian crossings, public-transport stops — remain in force.
• "Prohibited" seems right if you treat the rule "park on the right only" as absolute; but the one-way sign activates precisely the exception that permits parking on the left for a passenger car.
