Is it possible to park in the mentioned place on odd days of the month?
Answer options
Explanation
Yes, but only from 19:00 onwards.
On both sides of the street two signs of the same family are posted: both are blue circles with a red border and one diagonal line — that is "no parking" — with the difference that the white vertical bars inside the circle differ in number. One bar means no parking on odd days of the month and two bars means no parking on even days. When these two signs are used simultaneously and facing each other, the legislator's intention is clear: every day you must move the vehicle to the opposite side.
But moving requires a time window; if the prohibition on one side began exactly at midnight, simultaneously with the other side becoming free, no driver could comply. That is why, in the closing hours of the day — from 19:00 to 21:00, which is called the "changeover period" — parking is permitted on both sides of the street.
The safety and civic purpose of this arrangement is simple too: each day one side of the street is left clear so that fire engines and ambulances have adequate width and cleaning and snow clearance are possible. Exam note: memorise the number of bars inside the sign — one bar equals odd days — and remember that the answer to such a question is never an absolute "yes" or "no" but is conditional on the time.
• An unqualified "yes" ignores the presence of the odd-days sign; during the daytime hours parking on that side is an offence. • "No" is right only until 19:00 and leaves out the evening changeover window.
