Correct answer Stopping is prohibited on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

Explanation

Stopping is prohibited on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.

The main sign is a blue circle with a red border and a red cross: "no stopping". This sign is stricter than the no-parking sign, because it closes off both parking and a brief halt. But the white plate beneath it, with a red star-like symbol, limits the time of the prohibition: Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. That is, on working days this same kerbside is open for stopping.

The logic of this time-limited restriction is clear: on some streets the traffic load rises only on non-working days — near a market, a church, a park or a venue for events — and a vehicle stopped at the kerb blocks the view and takes up the usable width of the carriageway. Rather than closing the street permanently, the legislator closes only those days. In the picture you can see a narrow street with buildings hard against the carriageway, which a single row of parked cars would easily block.

The trap in this question is entirely visual: the symbol on the plate looks like a snowflake and leads the mind towards "during snowfall", whereas no plate announces weather conditions. Memorise the pair of day plates together: crossed hammers mean work and therefore working days; a star-like symbol means non-working days.

• The plate does not announce a single day; Saturday is part of the set of non-working days, not the whole of it. • The same objection as the previous option; Sunday too is only one of the days in this set and leaves out Saturday and public holidays. • Supplementary plates are not about the weather. The resemblance of this symbol to a snowflake is accidental, and the exam-setter is counting on exactly that resemblance.
