The last one to drive through the intersection:
Answer options
Explanation
The red car.
No sign and no traffic light is visible in the picture; that is, all three roads are of equal status and the order of passage is set solely by the right-hand rule.
Start with the car whose right is empty: the blue car, entering from the right of the picture, has no vehicle on its own right, so it moves first. The green car has blue on its right and must give way to it. The red pickup in turn sees green on its right and must stay behind it. The chain becomes blue, green, red; so the last vehicle is the red pickup. All three drivers have signalled left, and that is what makes the scene look crowded, but it does not change the order: two vehicles facing each other and both turning left do not cut across each other's paths, so the only remaining criterion is the right-hand rule.
Safety reason: at a junction without signs, if each driver acts on his own judgement, a front-to-side collision follows — the deadliest kind of urban crash, because the side of a car has almost no crumple space. One fixed convention, applicable to everyone, removes that ambiguity. Quick method in the exam: first find the car whose right is empty and build the chain from it; the last link of the chain is the answer to "which is the last vehicle".
• Green is second; it has the blue car on its right but it itself moves before the red pickup. • Blue is the exact opposite of the answer: because its right is empty, it is first, not last.
