Answer options

  1. Truck and motorcycle, bus, trolley bus. ✓ Correct answer
  2. Truck and bus, motorcycle, trolleybus.
Correct answer Truck and motorcycle, bus, trolley bus.

Explanation

The lorry and the motorcycle together, then the bus and last the trolleybus.

On the post to the right you can see the "give way" sign and the supplementary priority-road direction plate: the thick line enters the junction from the road opposite and turns right. The blue lorry and the motorcycle travelling beside it are both on that priority road and their paths do not conflict, so they pass through the junction together and first.

The white-and-green bus in the foreground and the yellow trolleybus on the left both come from minor roads and are of equal rank. Here the right-hand rule settles the matter: the white-and-green bus is on the trolleybus's right, so the trolleybus must give way to it and move last.

The most important trap in this question is the trolleybus itself. Many confuse it with a tram and imagine it has a tram's priority. A trolleybus is not a rail vehicle; it runs on rubber tyres, has a steering wheel and can deviate to some degree, so it is treated exactly like an ordinary bus. Only the tram counts as a rail vehicle. Memorise this distinction, because the exam asks about it repeatedly with similar-looking pictures.

• This puts the bus simultaneously with the lorry; but the bus comes from a minor road and does not enter the junction until the priority road is clear. Besides, the motorcycle, which is beside the lorry on the priority road, does not hold second place.
