Is it allowed to make a U-turn at an intersection by using reverse gear?
Answer options
Explanation
No — reversing is prohibited at intersections. The white arrow on the asphalt traces the car's reversing path and the manoeuvre takes place inside the intersection ahead. The regulations prohibit reversing at intersections absolutely; it does not depend on the street being empty or on the absence of pedestrians. The reason is the structure of an intersection: flows meet from several directions and every driver decides on one simple expectation — that vehicles move forwards. A reversing car meets none of those expectations, its driver has very restricted vision, and its lights do not convey the manoeuvre. Reversing is likewise prohibited on pedestrian crossings, in tunnels, on bridges and under them, at railway crossings, at public transport stops, on motorways, and wherever visibility is under 100 m.
