Do you have to give way to a car that is making a U-turn when starting from the roadside?
Answer options
Explanation
Obligated. You are stopped at the roadside about to move off, while the green car ahead is making a U-turn — that is, it is already moving on the carriageway and its arc around the central island occupies much of the road's width. The rule has no exception: a driver moving off from the roadside must give way to all vehicles travelling on the road and to pedestrians, and the fact that the other vehicle is turning round changes nothing. A car mid-U-turn is slow, has restricted vision and cannot stop or change course halfway; you are stationary with full visibility and waiting costs you nothing. Remember the general rule: whoever joins the flow from rest gives way.
