You pass first.

The traffic light on your right is green and the additional section beside it is dark; that is, you have permission to move straight ahead and, as the rails show, your path goes straight through the junction. The blue-and-white tram is on your left travelling in the same direction as you, with its side indicator lit; that is, it wants to leave its path and change direction.

The main point of this question is a correction of belief: the tram's precedence is not absolute. A tram takes precedence over non-rail vehicles when the light permits both the tram and you to move at the same time and your paths cross in different directions of the junction. But a tram travelling in the same direction as you and wanting to change its path is performing a manoeuvre; and a manoeuvre, by whatever vehicle, creates no priority. Whoever is travelling straight without changing direction takes precedence.

The safety reason for this order is clear: a car coming at normal speed on a straight path does not expect a vehicle to turn in front of it from the side; its stopping distance is not designed for such a surprise. The burden of decision must rest on the one who is changing the situation.

Even so, in practice never get close to a tram and never stay in its blind spot. A tram cannot deviate and its braking distance is very long; having priority does not prevent a collision.

• This option rides on the memorised sentence "a tram always takes precedence". That precedence is conditional and does not extend to a same-direction tram that is changing its path; here it is you who are travelling without changing direction.
