When making a right turn
Answer options
Explanation
You can pass first.
No priority sign is visible in the picture; neither a priority-road sign, nor "give way", nor stop. So this junction is of equal status and the "obstacle on the right" rule governs: every driver is obliged to give priority to the vehicle coming from his right. The car seen near the junction on the left of the picture has you on its own right; that is, it must wait and you, with your right indicator on, can perform the manoeuvre.
A right turn is also the least hazardous manoeuvre at a junction: it starts from the right edge of the carriageway and arrives at the right edge of the next road and crosses no opposing lane. That is why the legislator has defined no additional waiting for it.
But do not forget one practical warning: having priority means a legal right, not a guarantee of others' behaviour. Before turning the wheel, make sure the driver on the left has genuinely slowed and does not intend to enter the junction. The common trap in this question is to confuse the mere sight of a car in the frame with "being obliged to give priority"; the criterion is that car's position relative to you, not its presence.
• "Give way" is right when you have a stop or give-way sign, or when the car comes from your right; in this picture neither holds, and the car is on your left.
