On oncoming traffic, on steep descents, you must give way:
Answer options
Explanation
Give way to the vehicle coming uphill. On a steep descent, where the width of the road is not enough for two vehicles to pass at once, the driver going down must stop; priority belongs to the vehicle climbing. The reason is purely technical: a vehicle stopped on an upward slope has to balance brake, clutch and throttle to move off, may roll backwards, and the difficulty multiplies with a heavy load or a trailer, whereas stopping and restarting on a descent costs almost nothing. The trap is the public transport option — being a public vehicle creates no priority here; the only criterion is the direction of the slope. Memorise it as: the one going down gives way to the one going up.
