The last to drive through the intersection:

Answer options

  1. Red car.
  2. Blue car.
  3. Green car. ✓ Correct answer
Correct answer Green car.

Explanation

The green car.

In the picture, the yellow diamond "priority road" stands facing us right in the middle of the frame, and the back of that same sign is also visible beside the orange building; these two signs mark the two ends of one priority road: the road on which the red car and the blue car are travelling, facing each other. Above the green car, however, the inverted "give way" triangle is posted; that is, green is entering from the minor road.

The conclusion is clear without any further calculation: green must give priority to both priority-road cars and is the last to pass through the junction. The fact that green has signalled and wants to turn changes nothing; a manoeuvre brings no priority.

The order of the other two cars is instructive too: the red car has signalled left and is turning left on the priority road, so it must give way to the blue car coming straight towards it on that same priority road. Hence the full order is blue, then red, and finally green.

The safety logic of this arrangement is simple: a priority road carries a continuous, fast flow; if minor entries could cut into it, both a traffic bottleneck would form and a driver arriving at main-road speed would have no time to react.

Common trap: many candidates apply the "obstacle on the right" rule and, because green is on the right, send it first. That rule is activated only when the roads are of equal status; the presence of a priority-road sign disables it entirely.

• The red car is on the priority road; even with its left turn only one vehicle (blue) goes ahead of it, and it is never last. • The blue car goes straight on the priority road and nobody in this picture precedes it; it is in fact the first to pass, not the last.
