The road must be given way to
Answer options
Explanation
To neither; you are on the priority road and the others must give way.
The yellow diamond on the right means the priority road, and the supplementary plate beneath it draws the shape of the junction: the thick line comes up from below and turns to the left, and a thin diagonal line branches off upwards and to the right. So the priority road continues from your path to the left, and that diagonal road on which the green bus stands is minor.
By turning left you stay on the priority road. The bus driver comes from the minor road and is obliged to give way to you. The silver car on the left is also on the priority road, but it is on your left; when the priority road changes direction, its drivers apply between themselves the rules for a junction of equal-status roads, and in those rules priority belongs to the right. So neither of these two takes precedence over you.
Safety point: the bend in the priority road is where drivers make the most mistakes, because the apparent shape of the junction does not match the real priority and everyone imagines himself to be the "straight-ahead" one. Get into the habit that wherever you see the yellow diamond, you immediately look for the supplementary plate beneath it; without it, "being on the priority road" does not by itself settle your position. In the exam, the presence of a bus in the frame is usually there only to divert your attention.
• The bus is bulky and approaching, but it comes from the diagonal minor road; the thin line on the supplementary plate says exactly that. • "Both drivers" means treating both the minor-road bus and the car on the left as taking precedence; the first is on a minor road and the second is on your left, so neither has priority.
