Explanation
The blue, red and green cars are permitted to pass; the yellow and the white must stop.
Always read a traffic controller's signal in relation to his body, not to the lines of the street. There are three basic positions, and every question in this class is solved with those three.
One: arms lowered or extended to both sides — from the controller's left and right sides, going straight and turning right are free; from his chest side and from behind his back, movement is prohibited for all vehicles. Two: the right arm extended forward — from the controller's left side movement in all directions is free, from the chest side only a right turn is permitted, and from his right side and from behind him movement is prohibited. Three: an arm raised — movement of all vehicles and pedestrians is prohibited in all directions. So for each car in the picture, ask only which face of his body the controller presents from that car's point of view. Remember that a controller's signal takes precedence over the traffic lights, the signs and the markings.
• This option counts the red car as prohibited, whereas its position relative to the controller's body is exactly the one that leaves passage free; this option's list of prohibited vehicles has one car more than reality.
